You Say Love Wins, But How Do You Define Love?

I know people who says they’re “gay”, one of them is a dear friend who recently ran away from home and decided to live with her “girlfriend”.

Do I love these people? with all my heart.

Do I support their decision? absolutely not.

You see, LOVE as defined in the Bible and maybe even how most of us define it, is the sacrifice of self. Love is selfless. Love is others-oriented. Love is hoping and giving what is good for the other person. (You can read 1 Corinthians 13 to know more about love)

That’s how we define love.

But, you may say, how come I am saying I love these people and do not support their decision to be “homosexual” ? Isn’t that being selfish? isn’t that me-oriented? isn’t that depriving them for that “good” that they think they should have access to– marriage?

Here’s where the problem starts: HOW DO YOU DEFINE “GOOD”?

A mother does not allow her 3-year old son to play with scissors even if this little guy cries, shouts and begs for it! Have you seen parents who gives knives and scissors as toys to their toddlers? I hope not! That’s exactly my point. The child sees the scissors as a toy and he thinks it’s good to play with it. The mother knows that this is not good for her baby and it’ll cause him harm rather than enjoyment– so even if it’ll cause the child to cry (to get hurt emotionally) The mother will not give it to him. WHY? the answer is simple: …because the mother loves her child.

You and I cannot really define good because we know nothing about good. We were born sinners (Romans 3:23). The Bible says,

ALL HAVE TURNED ASIDE, TOGETHER THEY HAVE BECOME USELESS; THERE IS NONE WHO DOES GOOD, THERE IS NOT EVEN ONE. Romans 3:12 NASB

As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: Romans 3:10

So everything that you perceive as good now is based on your own personal preference, based on your feelings, based on your limited knowledge about everything. There are things that I may perceive as good and to you, it’s not!

How can we now live in a world with everyone thinking about, “what will make me feel good?”

How can we make the right decisions in life?

The answer is God!

God has given us His word to read and learn and find out the truth! 

The truth is there is none that is good except God! Mark 10:18

So unless you know God through His Son Jesus Christ, (because that’s the only way you can know God) You cannot know what is good.

So back to my bold statement awhile ago:

Do I love these people? with all my heart. 

As God loves me despite my sinful state, and having received His righteousness through Christ alone, I choose to love others. But that doesn’t end there…

Do I support their decision? absolutely not.

Yes, God loves sinners, but He hates SIN. Since I profess that I am a follower of Christ, I hate what He hates and therefore I will never ever support homosexuality.

Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate(HOMOSEXUALS), nor abusers of themselves with mankind,

 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.

 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God. I Corinthians 6:9-11 

I SPEAK NOT TO CONDEMN THESE PEOPLE, I SPEAK BECAUSE I LOVE THEM.

Just a reminder to everyone:

IF YOU DO NOT KNOW CHRIST, NOTHING– NOT EVEN MARRIAGE CAN BRING YOU GENUINE HAPPINESS AND SATISFACTION.
