Where there is no vision, the people perish:
There’s this thing about new year that makes people want to consider change. We could see posts from numerous people that
“this year, I am going to..” or
“on 2014, I’ll change this and that…”
Maybe it’s because of the fact that January 1 marks the START of the year and it’s always a good thing to find a place to start, it makes you feel determined to begin your journey to change, to train and discipline yourself. But what I find most often in the lives of those who plan to start anew every year (myself included) is that it does not carry on until the end of the year.
I would hear jokes that a “New Year’s resolution” is effective only until the end of the first week of January. Pretty much true on most cases, isn’t it? Haha
As I was reflecting on the new year ahead, I was excited to form new goals too just like everyone else. You could see some of it on the tab above that says “2014 goals”- Some of which are short term, some are mundane things, some are spiritual and long term.
IT IS FUN TO PLAN AHEAD OF THE THINGS YOU WANT TO DO AND TO TRAIN YOURSELF TO BECOME SOMEONE BETTER.
But just like every new year resolution based solely on self, it’s not going to last if you are not praying about it and you are not asking God for wisdom on the decisions that you are to make. God has to be involved because you are His creation and anything you want to do that is against His character will NEVER EVER push through.
I did not write this blog to bash people who likes to make resolutions and forget about it in the middle of the year. I’m writing this so that everyone will see the NEED FOR A VISION.
The Bible says “people without any form of vision perish”, that seems a harsh term but the Bible just wants to emphasize the necessity of a vision for people to carry on through their lives. If you don’t have a particular goal you will just wander around like a nomad.
A goal is something that you look forward to in the end and how serious your goal is will determine your attitude towards claiming that goal. If your goal for 2014 is to gain self-confidence then you will only focus on yourself, how you would want to look, how you would change something in your body that will give you more self-confidence.
But if you want to have a goal that will not only surpass 2014 but for the rest of your life. YOUR GOAL SHOULD BE TO BRING GOD THE GLORY! (OR TO PLEASE HIM)
What are the things that God wants me to change starting this year that would bring Him glory?
A particular attitude?
…lack of compassion for the souls around me who needs to hear the GOSPEL?
A particular issue in my life?
…forgiveness? (start to forgive)
…bitterness? (Be humble enough to confront that person and restore your relationship)
…guilt? (confess your sins before God. 1 John 1:9)
… coldness towards the Word of God? (Pray about it and why don’t you start 1 chapter a day from the book of John (example) )
… break up with your unbelieving boyfriend and girlfriend? (You know it is never God’s will that is why it portrayed as unequal yoke in the Bible)
… giving no importance to prayer? (This is the core of a life of sweet fellowship with your God, you don’t want to miss a time not to communicate with Him) (Start by 10 minutes each day and add up more every month) or (own a prayer notebook)
You see, these are the things that you need to deal with before anything else. Your relationship with God is first and foremost, everything else are just bonuses in this life.
WE NEED TO HAVE A RIGHT VIEW OF GOD SO THAT WE WILL HAVE A RIGHT VIEW ON OURSELVES AND OTHERS.
That would definitely make a good vision: start the year in learning more about God because everything else will follow. (Matt. 6:33)
Because if you start to have a right view of God,
you will know that it is right to not hold grudges towards others,
you will know when you become physically fit, you can be used by God in many ways,
you will know that God brings the right person to you in His perfect timing (NO NEED TO RUSH)
you will know that consistency is important to Him (Titus 2:7-8)
you will know that there is JOY no matter what circumstances 2014 may bring.. as long as you’re in the center of God’s will
NOW, WHAT IS YOUR VISION FOR 2014?
