THIS IS CHRISTMAS

CHRISTMAS!

This could be the best holiday of the year. People from all around the world would really prepare for this season. FOOD, GIFTS, MONEY, FAMILY REUNION, DOING CHARITABLE ACTS TO THE LESS FORTUNATE, HANG OUT WITH FRIENDS, and more!

If I were to ask,

What is the true meaning of Christmas?

Here are a few of the answers that most people would say:

1. It is the time to forgive each other and to make peace.

2. It is the time to spread LOVE.

3. It is a time to spend with your loved ones.

4. It is a time to remember the birth of Jesus Christ.

5. It is a time for SHARING what you have.

6. It is a time to forget past mistakes and start a new life.

Obviously, CHRISTmas is all about CHRIST.

People would normally stop there. Okay, some would say, “I remember thousands of years ago, a baby is born in a manger. Yes, He is Jesus.”  But, what is so significant about His birth?

We would love to imagine a beautiful scene with stars and gifts, and light, and happiness, but God brought me to a humbling reality in my personal devotion today.

TAKE A QUICK LOOK WITH ME ON JOHN 8:1-11

1 Jesus went unto the Mount of Olives.

And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them.

And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst,

They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act.

Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou?

This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not.

So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.

And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground.

And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.

The scene about the adulterous woman who was about to get STONED because of the crime she was committing. The people and the religious leaders KNEW adultery is a SIN. But they were testing Jesus, so that they will be able to accuse Him if He will say something else. JESUS SAID, WHOEVER HAS NOT COMMITTED A SINGLE SIN, LET HIM BE THE FIRST ONE TO CAST THE STONE!

THIS IS THE TRUTH! WE ARE ALL SINNERS, WE DON’T HAVE ANY STONES TO THROW!

But the humbling reality was not yet stated until verse 10 and 11:

Image

10 When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?

11 She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.

If I were to think of my life, of all the things that I have done, of my actions, my thoughts, my attitude, my goals, I KNOW FOR A FACT, STONING ME IS NOT ENOUGH TO PAY FOR ALL THE SINS THAT I HAVE COMMITTED. I DESERVE ETERNAL DAMNATION, I DESERVE HELL!

But one thing, ONE IMPORTANT THING GOD HAS TAUGHT ME TODAY!

… HE DOES NOT CONDEMN ME….. :’)

CHRISTMAS WAS NOT ONLY ABOUT A BABY BORN IN THE MANGER, IT WAS ABOUT A LOVING GOD WHO GAVE HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON, TO BEAR OUR SINS AND TO DIE FOR MEN IN THE CROSS SO THAT WE, IN OUR WORTHLESS STATE, COULD BE RECONCILED WITH GOD AND TO BE ABLE TO HAVE THAT LIVING HOPE OF SPENDING ETERNITY IN HEAVEN. THAT WAS THE WHOLE PURPOSE OF HIS BIRTH. IT WAS NOT TO GIVE US MATERIAL BLESSINGS, IT WAS FOR GREATER PURPOSE… TO SAVE US FROM OUR SINS, TO SAVE US FROM HELL, FROM A LIFE SEPARATED FROM HIM.

THIS IS CHRISTMAS.
